Dovewood Kennel Dovewood Kennel Dovewood Kennels

The Boykin Spaniel has proven it self as a wonderful companion as well as a remarkable hunter and field trial competitor. South Carolina, or the Palmetto State as it is often referred to has a lot of things to be proud of, and the Boykin Spaniel Retriever (South Carolina State Dog) is one of the best.

Dovewood Kennel is pleased to offer the following types of training:

  • Puppy Training consist of socialization, manners, fun work, puppy bumpers, decoys, live birds, loud noise, and introduction to water/weather permitting.

  • Obedience Training is for dogs of all breeds and requires a five week stay at the kennel. During this training, dogs are taught to perform both on and off lead to the command of sit, stay, here, and heel.

  • The aim of the Basic Gun DogTraining Program is to produce a retriever that is both birdie and steady to wing and shot. Required time for this training varies with each dog, but normally takes eight to ten weeks.

On occasion, Dovewood Kennel has started Boykin Spaniels. These Boykin Spaniels are obedience trained and ready to hunt doves in the field or ducks in the back water rivers, swamps and ponds of the Lowcountry.
